Gambell Street Light In Alaska

The days are getting longer and the sunlight feels like it is so much brighter. We are coming out of a long dark cold winter this year. The winter storms where many, the blizzards where many and the snowfall was more than the year before but less, much less than two years ago.

Was out filming at the Alaskan Native community at Gambell on Saint Lawrence Island,
just a few air miles from the country to the west, Russia and the date line. The blizzard
was powerful that night, the snowdrift and the weather, cold as it was, made for some
dramatic footage.

Had the Cooke Anamorphic 75mm full frame lens on the camera that night, its amazing to work in the 2.8:1 format rendering the visual landscape closer to how I see the natural world. Just natural light that night, and there was not much of it on a dark night in the middle of winter, just a few street light or should I say, lights lighting up the four wheeler trail in town and the glimmer of light in the homes around the village.

This is the reality and the true visual life living in Bush Alaska, off the road system and miles away from other civilizations in the USA, close to our neighbor Russia.
